Calling All Superheroes!

Since McClain was a baby, Travis dubbed him Superbuddy.  I still have images in my mind of itty bitty McClain being cradled in his daddy's strong arms, while hearing the nickname Superbuddy being spoken for the first time.  Hence, a Superhero birthday party seemed just the thing for our Superbuddy's 3rd birthday celebration.

We were fortunate that our church allowed us to use their facility to host the party.  The huge playroom holds two bounce houses so McClain and all of his superhero buddies could jump to their hearts' content.

Suggie found the (perfect!) superhero cape, mask, belt, and arm band, and shield set for all of the party goers.  The boys could each grab one on their way into the party and take it home as their party favor! (Thanks Shugs!)

Then it was time to light the candles and sing to the birthday boy.  He was so cute, he sang Happy Birthday right along with everyone else.

My precious McClain, Happy 3rd Birthday to you! I still can't believe that I am a a boy mom.  You make me laugh, smile, and shake my head everyday.  Ever since Lucy Mills had a birthday in August you have asked me every.single.week if it's my birthday now? Well Superbuddy, your turn for a birthday finally came and we were all so happy to celebrate YOU. We love you more than life!

The Singing Christmas Tree

I grew up going to The Singing Christmas Tree, a musical performance put on every year by a local church.  I thought this would be a something Lucy Mills would enjoy - the lights, the songs, the skits, so I got us tickets to see it one afternoon. 

It was a fun girls outing with my two favorites Lucys.

It just so happened that Faith Stevens, our favorite Ben Lippen cheerleader, had a lead part with a solo.  She was absolutely amazing.

We got to see her afterwards! Can't believe I used to rock Faith when she was a little girl, and here she is holding mine! 

It was just the thing to get us into the Christmas spirit.  (Maybe next year Lucy Mills can stay awake for the entire show...hehe).

Twas the Day We Saw Santa

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

And I laughed when I saw him in spite of myself.

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. 

A friend of ours had Santa come to her house one afternoon and I couldn't resist taking the children to see him, dressed in their Christmas pjs of course! 

They weren't shy one bit and jumped right up on his lap. 

Santa asked what they wanted for Christmas and Lucy Mills said she would like a golden piano, before reaching for a book for Santa to read to her. 

McClain said he wants drums and candy.  It may be a very loud and musical Christmas at our house.

Its Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

"Mama, why does Santa have so many toys in his bag?" McClain asked me as his brown eyes focus on the Santa Claus picture hanging on the wall.

Before I have a chance to give him an answer, his sister , full of wisdom and knowledge, pipes up with all of the confidence in the world "Buddy, Santa took toys to all of the boys and girls who didn't have a lot of toys.  We should give the toys we aren't playing with anymore to some babies to make them happy."  I love them.

As I struggle with how to balance the Christmas season - buying the right gifts (on a budget), playing Santa, parties, Christmas cards, decorating, creating traditions, and oh yeah it's supposed to be about Jesus' birthday - these two remind me that it doesn't have to be perfect.

Just celebrate.

Have hope.

 Be joyful.

We are blessed.

I want to keep it simple this year.  Rather than get bogged down with the "to-do" list I want to enjoy Lucy Mills being 4 and McClain being 3 this season.

Lucy Mills and I went to Ben Lippen's football game to see our favorite cheerleader, Faith. Lucy Mills and her friend Durham LOVED the cheerleaders and had a blast cheering from the sidelines. It was homecoming and we had the best time seeing the floats and skits the students put together. Such an incredible community to visit!



We enjoyed a Sunday afternoon this fall playing with the Fitts family in their new neighborhood. The kids went fishing, played baseball, and then stripped down to splash around in the FREEZING cold water. Looks like McClain had the right idea though.


The kids and I made our second annual trip to the pumpkin patch this October. It was a great day with sweet friends, enjoying a hayride, picking out pumpkins, storytime, and playing on the playground. We are making memories.



Sunday lunch stop after church. I'd hang out with these cuties even if I didn't have to!! (Suggie gave this dress AND leggings to Lucy Mills for her birthday. This girl is obsessed with leggings and asks to wear this outfit every.single.day).



Nothing like an early morning round of Candyland. These babies have the best daddy. The laughter coming out of the kitchen made my heart smile.
