Thanksgiving Celebrations,3 Months Old, and Gamecocks Win

I absolutely love this time of year - cool weather, football Saturdays, time with family, anticipating the Christmas season, and celebrating our countless blessings. Of course this year we are so thankful for our sweet Lucy Mills. Everyday has brought us an immeasurable amount of joy like we have never known.

The Mason family stayed in Columbia for Thanksgiving this year. We went to my mom's house Thanksgiving day to enjoy a turkey dinner, and then Friday we celebrated at dad's house by having Susan's shrimp and grits recipe. Bring on the calories!

We woke up to a blue-sky Thursday morning ready to get the day started. While I preheated the oven and began cooking, Trav played the guitar for Lulu while Maggie cleaned up my crumbs!
still sniffin'...
Lucy Mills is bound to be musical with all the time her daddy spends singing and playing his guitar with her...he swears that she mimics him by strumming her fingers while her plays!

The day after Thanksgiving Lucy Mills turned three months old! I feel like she is such a big girl but when I think about the time frame of three months I know it's not a long amount of time! I suppose it's because so much has happened in the last few months, therefore it seems like August 27th was a long time ago. When people stop me on the street during our walks, or even in the grocery store line they always "ooh and ah" over my sweet girl and then proceed tell me to enjoy every minute of it because the time flies by. Well I am trying to do just that. Even though she is still considered and infant, Lucy Mills is doing something new and exciting everyday. Whether it's lighting up the room with her smiles, finding her laugh, or discovering her own two hands, this little girl is growing up.

The sign didn't show up well but it's her three month old banner. She is getting bigger and the bear is getting smaller!
I love little punky's expression here. She is getting more and more alert and aware of what is going on around her.
giving me half a smile!
wave at the camera Lucy Mills! she is obsessed with her hands these days. she opens them, closes them, brings them together and even tries putting a whole hand in her mouth!

So Thursday was Thanksgiving, Friday was Lucy Mills' three month old birthday, and Saturday was the Palmetto State Bowl game - aka Clemson vs. Carolina!

Here is me and Trav - enjoying a great day of football!
Ok, so I need to address the issue of where my team allegiance lies. I am one of those rare people who is both a Clemson and a Carolina fan. It's true. I grew up with a dad who lived for USC football and a mom who graduated from Clemson. I, too went to Clemson for my first year and a half of college before transferring to Columbia College. So what's a girl to do? Here is what I have concluded -

I have spent years keeping up with both teams and cheering for both as well. And I will continue to do just that; however, I grew up living in Columbia, going to Carolina games with my dad, I married a gamecock fan and honestly I have been to way more USC games. While my time at Clemson is special and dear to me, I found myself wearing black and garnet yesterday (although when given a sticker that said "Beat Clemson" I refused to wear it), and cheering as USC fought its way to the victory. So there you have it - I love BOTH teams and will proudly participate in our state's collegiate athletic events. But by simple association I I have come to love me some Carolina football!

In a nutshell that was our Thanksgiving weekend :)

Not For the Camera!

Lucy Mills is smiling all the time now. Awake, asleep, even when she gets irritable she will give a little smile. I have the hardest time getting a pictures of it though! The minute I put the camera in her face she starts studying it, I guess intrigued by another new object to discover. She especially gets a curious look when the flash goes off. I have to almost surprise her with the camera while she is already smiling to get a shot of it. The minute I try to stage a cute picture, all smiles are off. Oh well, she is cute either way!

Mommy and sweet little punky..

"hi Mom!"

Lucy Mills' Grandmother and Papa T gave her the greatest gift, I call it a snugglie coat, not to be confused the the snuggie advertised on tv :). It is a soft fleece hooded and footed wrap. It's the perfect combination of a blanket and a warm coat which is perfect for a growing baby.

Those of you that know me well know that I am a walker. I love to walk outside, especially on pretty, blue sky days, for miles and miles. This fall Lucy Mills has been my walking companion. Late Friday afternoon I pulled out her snugglie coat for the first time, wrapped her tightly in it, and we went for a walk. She was wide awake when we left but quickly fell fast asleep in her stroller. She must have been pretty warm and content.

Look at those long lashes! The first thing the nurses said when Lucy Mills was born was "look at her eye lashes!" And let me tell you she has batted them everyday since. I wish I could say she gets them from me but Travis is the one with the beautiful lashes.

Grandmother Judy knows how us Mason girls love monograms!
I will try to get more pictures of her smiling soon!

Things I Love About Lucy Mills (Just To Name a Few)

Her Smiles Sometimes I feel like they are reserved just for me! In the mornings when she wakes up and sees my face, or when I am feeding her or changing her, our eyes lock and she smiles the biggest, brightest smiles. Her entire face lights up and all seems right with the world during those moments.
Her Expressions Lucy Mills has so many facial expressions for any given second. She, of course ,has her happy, smiling face; but she has a pouty face where she sticks her bottom lip out and almost looks frightened of something. She looks so sad but when she makes this face but Travis and I start laughing because she just looks so darn cute! I also like her sleepy face. This one is like her daddy's. She gets a tired expression and her eyelids get really pink. Travis' do the same thing...I call them sleepy eyes. Other times she scrunches up her nose and makes an O-shape with her lips. This one is pretty funny...
When She Looks At Me Only There have been several times when we are either out in public or in a crowded place like church or a Monavie meeting, and Lucy Mills will look at me only. Her eyes just stay steady one me no matter who comes up or what noises she hears. So many people have commented "oh, she only has eyes for her mama" which of course I love to hear! When She Falls Asleep In My Arms From the beginning I try to have Lucy Mills fall asleep on her own in the crib. She does this beautifully and without tears (usually). But there are those special moments when she falls asleep while I am holding her during a feeding or if we are not at home. Her little body just goes limp and she nestles against my chest. I treasure these tender moments because I know she will be all grown up before long.
Sleeping Through The Night! Yes, that's right...Miss Priss began sleeping through the night at 9 weeks old. I have her on a great schedule which allows 4 naps a day and a full nights sleep until 8am. And let me say a rested mama is a happy mama! Her looks It blows my mind how the Lord can bring together 2 people who look nothing alike and create a little person who resembles Mommy and Daddy. I have dark features and olive skin while Travis has lighter skin, green eyes, and blonde (well, part blonde part grey) hair. Lucy Mills has turned out to be a good combination of us both. Some people say they see me in her, but most say she looks like Trav. One thing is for sure - God made her a unique little being and I am just happy she is mine! Her Hands Even before she was born, Lucy Mills has been all about the hands. In my ultrasound pictures she had her hands sweetly under her chin and alongside her face. As an infant she sleeps with them either on her cheek or over her eyes. It's precious! People have even commented "I bet she will be a hand model one day!" I guess we'll see...
here her sweet hand is on mine while I am giving her a bottle...

I am sure this list will continue to grow as the days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. But at 12 weeks old, these are the things I have come to love and adore in my sweet one. While these things bring a smile to my face, motherhood is not all a walk in the park. There have been hard moments, sleepless nights, acid reflux, milk allergies, more poopy diapers than I can count, shots, setting up a schedule, and ear piercing crying, BUT, I can honestly say that every second is worth it if it means I can be with this precious child everyday.
I look forward to seeing this list of favorites grow and grow and grow...

Funny Friends and New Things

Well it has been another rainy week in SC so we have had lots of days indoors. But that's ok because Lucy Mills is discovering all of her new little friends that hang out just above her bed and even above her pink boppy seat. Some friends of ours, the McCardles, gave us this great, colorful mobile with cute little animals that hang down. I hung it on Lucy Mills' crib this week and she will stare at it forever, just so intriged. Wish I had done it sooner!

Don't you just love this sweet face? Everything in this world is brand new to her and she seems to be soaking it all in.
And here is another buddy. I have been putting her in this boppy seat (it's a life saver actually, especially when I am making dinner!) But just recentley has the little lady bug come to life for her. She gazes at it and even swings her arms to touch it.

Another milestone is that Lucy Mills is doing a great job sitting and holding her head up. She is still a little wobbly but getting stronger everyday. We started putting her in her blue bumpo seat to help her get used to sitting up on her own. She likes it for a few minutes but then I think she gets tired of holding he head up.
love that deer caught in the headlights look!
hmmm...who is this guy???
sitting up like a big girl...looking just like Daddy when he watches TV :)
funny faces for the camera...

Lucy Mills goes to Litchfield

Travis and I packed up the car on a beautiful Friday afternoon, piled Lucy Mills and Maggie Mae in the back, and made our first trip as a family down to the beach. We picked the perfect weekend. There was not a cloud in the sky and the chilly November temperature made for plenty of snuggle time! We enjoyed walking on the beach, going out for breakfast, watching plenty of college football, and even visiting with some special friends who were also vacationing. The last time Travis and I came down to Litchfield back in May, we were celebrating our one year anniversary. I was also five and a half months pregnant with Lucy Mills. What a joy it was to have her here this time!

It is so nice to have fun getaways, but Travis and I decided that there is no place like home. I am always excited to take a trip but usually I am ready to come back home too.

Georgia on My Mind and Halloween Time

Well this was Lucy Mills' first Halloween and we enjoyed the weekend by taking a trip down to Travis' parents house in Columbus, Georgia. She did great on her first road trip. I suppose she must have known that lots of hugs and kisses awaited her as the Mason side of the family eagerly anticipated her arrival. Even though the weather was cold and rainy, we snuggled up to enjoy the company, SEC football games on TV, and yummy taco soup.

Lucy Mills was the center of attention, especially when I put her in her Halloween costume. Although our little pumpkin was not thrilled to dress up, we had to commemorate the milestone.

Tolerating the outfit...

to "get me out of this!"
